At The Electric Tobacconist Ltd (we, us or our) we are committed to safeguarding and preserving the privacy of our visitors (you).
This Privacy Policy explains what happens to any personal data that you provide to us, or that we collect from you whilst you visit our site.

Types of data we collect from you and how it is used
Information you give us
You give us information about you by filling in forms on our site or by corresponding with us by phone, e-mail or otherwise. This includes information you provide when you register to use our site, sign up to our newsletter, search for a product, place an order on our site, enter a competition, promotion or survey and contact our customer care team. The information you give us may include, but is not limited to, your name, address, date of birth, email address and payment details.
Payment Information
Debit/Credit Cards: We offer functionality whereby you can store your card details so that you can checkout with ease when you place subsequent orders with us. We do not store card details; we hold a “token” which correlates to your card details stored by Opayo who use military-grade encryption and hashing to keep your details safe. Information we collect about you
With regard to each of your visits to our web store we may automatically collect the following information:
Technical information, including the IP address used to connect your computer to the Internet, your login information, browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform;
Information about your visit, including the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL) to, through and from our site (including date and time); products you viewed or searched for; page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse-overs), and methods used to browse away from the page and any phone number used to call our office number.
Information we receive from other sources
Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to analyse metrics such as number of visits, demographics, device information and user journey. All data we use within Google Analytics is anonymous.

Microsoft Clarity: We use Microsoft Clarity to gain insights about how our site is used by customers. No personal data is stored or used by this tool.
Age Verification: We use Age Verification tools (ID3Global, Experian) to confirm purchasers are over the age of 18. We utilise data from multiple sources (e.g Credit Records, Electoral Roll) and from time to time we may ask you to verify your age by uploading a valid identification card. We do not keep uploaded ID documents on record, only the result returned by age checks.
IQOS
UPON PURCHASE OF AN IQOS DEVICE: The personal data (Name, Address, Date of Birth, Email) we obtain from you in connection with your purchase of IQOS devices will be transferred to the UK importer of IQOS “heat-not-burn” (or heated tobacco) products and “HEETS” consumables, Philip Morris Limited (UK number 03619145). They will use your data to create your personal IQOS account on their website HERE, activate the 12-month warranty and for data analysis purposes. Any of your data will be held in accordance with their privacy policy, available HERE. Please contact us before you order your IQOS device should you wish to opt out of this process.

What are cookies?
Cookies provide information regarding the computer used by a visitor. We may use cookies where appropriate to gather information about your computer in order to assist us in improving our website.
We may gather information about your general internet use by using the cookie. Where used, these cookies are downloaded to your computer and stored on the computer's hard drive. Such information will not identify you personally. It is statistical data. This statistical data does not identify any personal details whatsoever.

Mailing lists
You have the option to sign up to our email newsletters during the process of placing an order, setting up an account with us or within the footer of any page of our site. If you opt-in to receive newsletters, we use your purchase history and order frequency to personalise and improve your experience on our website and to send you information about relevant products and offers we think you'll love.
You can unsubscribe or change your subscription preferences at any time either through your account settings page or within the emails you receive from us.
We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our newsletters.
We do not sell details of our email subscribers to third parties nor do we buy mailing lists.
Transactional emails
Your email address will be used to provide you with order updates (including delivery notifications from courier partners) and notifications of items that have been left in your basket. Your email address will also be used to collect reviews about your purchased products and our performance. Reviews.co.uk emails can be unsubscribed from within the footer of the emails.
We use Salesfire for basket abandonment; if you are logged in and leave items in your basket, a reminder will be sent to your email address. These notifications can be unsubscribed from within the footer of the emails.
Who we share information with
We share information with third parties only when strictly necessary. For age verification purposes we use GBG ID3Global and we will ask for your name, address and date of birth; if initial checks fail we will also ask for Driver's Licence or Passport numbers. We share your name and delivery address with Royal Mail and Global Freight Solutions(depending on which delivery service is opted for) when you place an order. We also share your email address and telephone number (if supplied) with Global Freight Solutions so that you can be supplied with tracking information regarding your order.
For order processing we use PeopleVox. This system utilises your name, email address, delivery address and billing address.
For the purposes of help and support we utilise services from Freshdesk. Your name and email address will be used as part of these systems.
Where your information is stored
Information held by us is stored on secure servers located within the UK and European Economic Area.
Access to your personal information
You are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that we hold. If you already hold an account with us, you can amend and update your details from within your account settings. If you would like a copy of the data we hold on you or would like to request deletion of any personally identifiable information, please contact us through our helpdesk.
How long we keep your information for
We do not keep your data indefinitely. We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.
To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorised use or disclosure of your personal data, the purposes for which we process your personal data and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal requirements.
By law we have to keep basic information about our customers (including Contact, Identity, Financial and Transaction Data) for six years after they cease being customers for tax purposes.

In some circumstances we may anonymise your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.
Newsletter subscribers are removed from mailing lists one year after an email is last opened.
